September Meeting – Seasons of Writing

Are you where you want to be in your writing career? Have no fear!

Join us at the upcoming Brandon Christian Writers meeting for “The Seasons of a Writing Life” presented by Cheryl Johnston, managing editor of FOCUS magazine.

Cheryl has experienced many seasons and many changes in her life. She was born in Michigan and moved to Plant City in 1978. Her career includes working in the manufactured-housing industry, teaching high school English, and writing and editing for FOCUS for 13 years. Currently, Cheryl is working on a novel and her legacy memoir. She enjoys traveling and golfing with her husband RJ, adores her children and grandchildren, loves Christ, and encourages others to discover and develop their special powers. Oops! I mean talents.

Any writer, from aspiring to already published, is invited to attend the free event.

We will meet Thursday, September 27, from 7-9 PM at St. Andrew’s UMC, 3315 S. Bryan Rd., Brandon, ROOM 420: DISCIPLES HALL (Please note the room is upstairs and there is an elevator). Disciples Hall is the building on the right as you drive into the church parking lot from Bryan Road.

We will meet Thursday, August 23, from 7-9 PM at St. Andrew’s UMC, 3315 S. Bryan Rd., Brandon, ROOM 305: FAMILY LIFE CENTER (Our usual spot). The Family Life Center is the building straight ahead as you drive into the church parking lot from Bryan Road.

Don’t forget to bring manuscripts for critiquing to this meeting, at least 10 copies, no more than two pages front only or one-page front and back, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. font.

Foundation of Fiction through Film Writers’ Workshop

The Word Weavers International and Tampa groups have invited Brandon Christian Writers and any other writers to attend this great upcoming workshop.
Eva Marie Everson presents a workshop using film techniques to create memorable fiction. The techniques you will learn can apply to novels and stories, non-fiction and articles. Learn to share stories in more effective ways. The workshop is December 5 between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm, and the cost to attend is $30.
Please email Sharron Cosby if you’d like to attend the event. Advance registration is required because the group is supplying food.
We are looking forward also to seeing everyone at our November 19 meeting for Brandon Christian Writers this month (3rd Thursday rather than 4th because of holidays).

February Meeting (in March)

Brandon Christian Writers will next be meeting on Monday, March 2, at Plant City Church of God.
This month we’ll be hearing from author, blogger, and workshop presenter Andy Lee. The event begins at 7:00 PM, but BCW members will be at the church by 6:00 PM for coffee, tea, and fellowship beforehand. If you plan to arrive early, please feel free to bring snack items as well.
Also, please be sure to share this event with your friends and anyone else who may be interested in attending. Andy Lee’s message is applicable to everyone, not just writers.
We’re looking forward to see you there.
